在哥本哈根郊外的山顶上，有一座世界上最重要的（即使是相对鲜为人知的）由600万枚黄砖组成的表现主义经典建筑。它就是由建筑师P.V.詹森·克林特设计的格鲁特威教堂，它建于1921年至1940年之间，是为了纪念格鲁特威， 一位19世纪著名的丹麦牧师，哲学家，历史学家，赞美诗人和政治家而建造的。[1]詹森·克林特受格鲁特威对基督教的人文主义解释的启发，将哥特式大教堂的规模和风格与丹麦乡村教堂的美学融合在一起，创造了一个可与之同名的地标建筑。[2]
1912年，鉴于1873年去世的格鲁特威对丹麦的历史和文化的意义重大，决定为其建设国家纪念碑。在1912年和1913年举行了两次比赛，提交了众多雕像，装饰柱和建筑纪念馆设计作品。[3]
