从字面上我们就能了解这种立面系统包含两个层,通常是玻璃的,空气能够在内部空层流动。这种空间(从20立面厚到几米厚不等)是作为隔绝措施而存在的,从极端温度,风,到声音,其在高温和低温时都可以提升建筑的热工效应。也许最有名的双层立面的例子就是福斯特建筑事务所设计的玛利埃克斯街30号的“小黄瓜”。
中间空层中的气流可以顺其自然也也可以人为控制,双层玻璃也可以附带防晒设备。
